Description

This Balboa M7 heater temperature sensor is a complete replacement assembly featuring integrated wiring, 2-pin connector, and screw-down cap. The 12 inch sensor with 1/4 inch fitting does NOT include the mounting tube or tube-side bracket, as these components are typically reused from your existing installation. When this temperature sensor fails, it commonly triggers an SN error code on Balboa M7 control systems.

Understanding M7 Dual Sensor Operation:

The M7 system utilizes two sensors positioned at opposite ends of the heater tube to monitor water flow and temperature. Instead of relying on a pressure switch like older models, this advanced system verifies water circulation by measuring the temperature differential between both sensors during heating cycles. When the heater activates, the controller expects to detect a temperature increase indicating proper flow. Without adequate circulation, the system will pause and retry heating. Repeated failed attempts cause the tube temperature to rise excessively, eventually triggering an OH overheat code and system shutdown requiring manual reset.

Troubleshooting High Temperature Codes:

If your topside display shows 110 degrees but the actual water temperature feels cooler, while simultaneously experiencing OH codes, your sensors are likely functioning correctly by detecting genuine overheating in the tube. The root cause is typically circulation pump malfunction preventing proper water movement through the heating system. Investigate pump operation first. Additionally, during warm weather or indoor installations, excessive filter cycle settings (above F2) can contribute to overheating conditions.
