The split nut fastens directly to your heater tube via the included screws, creating a secure mount that threads onto the union with the gasket creating a watertight seal between union and tube. Verify compatibility: Your 2" plumbing should measure 2 3/8" Outside Diameter, heater tube interior should be 2", and the threaded section should measure 3" Outside Diameter - if these measurements match, this is your correct replacement kit.
