Description
This comprehensive 3 HP 48 Frame Waterway Executive wet end assembly measures 2 1/2" X 2" and includes everything needed for installation: volute, impeller, seal, face plate, wear ring, bleeder barb, silicone, and mounting screws. The bleeder barb fitting substitutes for one standard plug, allowing reconnection of your existing 3/8" bleeder hose from your prior pump configuration.
Frame identification is critical: 48 Frame motors feature thru bolt spacing of 3 5/8" center-to-center or 5 3/16" measured diagonally in an X pattern, while 56 Frame units measure 4 1/8" between bolts or 5 3/4" diagonal. This wet end is designed for pumps drawing approximately 12.0 Amps at 230V operation. No 3 HP variants exist for 115V configurations.
Important Fitment Detail: Unlike standard 2" pump unions measuring approximately 3" across, this wet end features an enlarged suction port measuring roughly 3 5/8" edge to edge. Verify your current wet end has this oversized front suction fitting before purchasing.
To determine correct horsepower, locate the amperage rating on your motor nameplate. For dual-speed models, you'll see two values like 10.0/3.5 - use the higher number. Single-speed motors show one amperage value. Reference guide: 8.0A = 1 HP, 10.0A = 2 HP, 12.0A = 3 HP, 14.0A = 4 HP, 16.0A = 5 HP. Disregard horsepower claims printed on motors - amperage provides accurate sizing. Many spa owners believe they have 5 HP pumps, but electrical reality tells otherwise. Calculate total load: two genuine 5 HP pumps at 16A each equals 32A, plus a 5.5 KW heater adds 21A, totaling 53 amps - exceeding typical 50A spa panel capacity. Always match replacement parts using verified amperage readings rather than horsepower specifications.
