Description
This complete Waterway Executive wet end assembly is designed for 4 HP spa pumps with 48 frame motors and features 2 1/2" intake by 2" discharge ports. Your purchase includes everything needed for installation: volute housing, impeller, mechanical seal, seal plate, wear ring, and mounting hardware.
48 Frame Identification: Verify your frame size by measuring motor through-bolt spacing. 48 frame motors measure 3 5/8" center-to-center (straight across) or 5 3/16" when measured diagonally in an X pattern. By comparison, 56 frame spacing is 4 1/8" straight or 5 3/4" diagonal.
Critical Suction Port Note: This Executive series wet end has an oversized front suction fitting measuring approximately 3 5/8" across the outer edges, larger than standard 2" unions which measure about 3" edge-to-edge. Confirm your existing wet end has this larger suction connection before ordering.
Power Requirements: This 4 HP wet end pairs with 230V motors drawing approximately 14.0 amps. No 115V motors are available for 4 HP ratings.
Determining Correct Horsepower by Amperage: Check your motor nameplate for amperage ratings (critical for accuracy). On dual-speed pumps, two amp ratings appear (example: 10.0/3.5); use the higher number. Single-speed motors show one amperage value. Match your motor amperage to these standards: 8.0A = 1HP | 10.0A = 2HP | 12.0A = 3HP | 14.0A = 4HP | 16.0A = 5HP
Important: Disregard horsepower markings on motor labels—always rely on amperage for accurate sizing. Horsepower claims are frequently exaggerated by manufacturers. Here's why it matters: Two supposed 5HP pumps (16A each = 32A) plus a 5.5kW heater (21A) would draw 53 amps simultaneously. Most hot tubs operate on 50-amp service, making true 5HP+ ratings impossible. Amperage numbers reflect reality; use them for proper wet end selection.
Alternative horsepower ratings available in this Executive 2 1/2" x 2" 48 frame wet end series include 1HP, 2HP, and 3HP configurations to match your specific motor amperage requirements.
